I can still picture him doing backflips off the diving board at Dr E's house. That's very cool. I'm glad for him.
Any luck yet?
Moving this weekend.
I'm still not sure I believe what EGW says about "unfermented grape juice" being the drink of choice in Christ's time.
Ask any true Jew and they will tell you there ain't any such thing as Jews drinking "fresh grape juice" at weddings or any other celebration for that matter. I've sat at enough tables with Jews to know this. Sorry folks, it sounds really nice and conservative and all to say otherwise, but historically it was actually FERMENTED wine that Christ made at the wedding in Cana. They danced too- gasp! If all they ever drank was fresh grape juice, why was Noah drunk?
Why did Christ say, 'You do not put new wine in old wineskins. No, you put new wine into new wineskins". Why? So as it ferments, the skin will not burst.
Wine is not considered strong drink. In Jewish culture overseas a 12 year old partakes of wine at meals & celebrations. (fermented)
Also, a requirement for a New Testament elder/deacon in the early apostolic church was that the man "not be given to much wine"- which means a little to relax with is okay. Wine (fermented) actually has several health benefits.
I don't drink- partly because I don't care for the taste, but also because I have a weak kidney and it would not be beneficial to me physically to drink. But I do not condemn those who partake of Wine.
One of the Methodist churches we attended when I was a girl used actual wine for the communion service. Nobody was drunk or inappropriate. Most of my family drinks and they are not sloppy drunks. Naieve people seem to think that one sip of a beverage and you are automatically alcoholic for life, beating your wife and kids, losing your job and all desire to know God. Simply not true!
