Life or Something Like It

Life SHOULD NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well- preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally WORN out and screaming "WOO HOO - WHAT A RIDE!!!"

The Paradoxical Commandments

(written by Kent Keith when he was 19 and a sophomore at Harvard in the 1960's)

Mother Teresa had this poem up on the wall of her children's home in Calcutta.

I think I will put it up on my wall in my new place.

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

persistence in the face of absolute resistance. it's called survival. I like it, I'm putting it up on my blog. Might even print it out and put it up here. As the little fish in nemo says "just keep swimming" that's what you gotta do.

so, you start the new job tomorrow right? how's the apartment? how's the new space? I'm so glad you got out of PHX. Crazy neighbors, angry relatives, stupid churchies and serial killers - 2 if my cnn is correct. All great reasons, not to mention the triple digit temps, to get out. I expect updates soon. :) Love you

Angel, I have always loved this poem. Helps me stay focused when somebody is a royal pain!!

I'm simply putting one foot in front of the other right now. Getting by one day at a time.

So excited that you & Royce have a chance for a new start somewhere better. Best wishes for your move- I'm sure it must be hectic with all the kids, but it will be over before you know it and you will be in your new place! :o)

Keep in touch...

Anxious to hear all about it.
Hope they have the internet out there in the boonies.
LOL
Royce, put away your ice scraper - break out the sunscreen again.
I heard its still hot there????

Can't be as hot as this.
Hope you all enjoy your new start as a family and that you enjoy creating your own space away from painful memories and the trapped feelings.

I think this will be good for both of you in terms of self-esteem.
Barb I hope you like your new job.
Royce keep up your commitment to health you are a great demonstration of persistence.
