Cruise in birth control
By JULIE MOULT
TOM Cruise’s pregnant fiancée Katie Holmes will be reminded to keep her vow of silence during birth — by signs plastered around their home.
The couple — following the Scientology tradition of a silent birth — had the posters delivered to their Beverly Hills mansion.
The 6ft placards will be placed so Katie can see them in labour.
One reads: “Be silent and make all physical movements slow and understandable.”
Dawson’s Creek actress Katie, 26, must “keep mum” and will not even be allowed painkillers when she has the couple’s first child due any day.
Friends — believed to be Scientology elders — were pictured carrying the huge white boards through the gates.
Followers believe it is traumatic for babies to hear their mother scream or groan when giving birth. They think it can cause “psychic” damage, which takes years of therapy to overcome.
The cult’s creator, sci-fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, once said: “Maintain silence in the presence of birth to save both the sanity of the mother and child.”
The doctrine stresses newborns cannot be poked or prodded for medical tests or spoken to for seven days.

LMAO
yeah, well, he also thinks that mental illness is made up.
I cannot imagine that anyone would agree that not talking to a child for the first 7 days of it's life is a good thing. Not being able to say comforting things. Well, anyway, it's a set of rules designed by someone who will NEVER have children, because it's a MAN, so obviously that's who should be making decisions about birth. Good choice Katie, good choice.
I think that any authenticity that man had as a movie star went out the window and was sealed when he aped about on Oprah's couch.
But it comes back to what I said before, it's their life and there are plenty of weird things that we grew up into that make no sense whatsoever so hey, be as weird as you wanna be Mr. Cruise. There's a plenty out there like ya. (just don't come to us for sympathy when your kid goes nuts in 18 years)
Interesting! Yeah, I say good luck with that silent, natural labor, Katie!! What happens if she makes noise? Will they disfellowship her??
I guess my kids are seriously warped because I made a LOT of noise.
It makes little sense to me to bring a baby into the world that is used to hearing and is comforted by it's mother's voice on a daily basis and make it live in silence for 7 days after birth.
(I pretty much stopped being a Cruise fan when he dumped Nicole and broke her heart.)
